My parents always encouraged me to be an active kid. I can recall being involved in tennis, soccer, baseball, flag football, gymnastics and basketball. I am not saying I was the best in each of those, but I did get a participation medal! That commitment to an active lifestyle has stayed with me into adulthood.
But let’s be clear, an active and well-balanced lifestyle has not been easy. I can list a dozen things that have gotten in my way over the years. Often times I am my own worst enemy and can easily talk myself out of anything. In 2002, I made a commitment to invest in myself and knew that I needed to make my health a priority. Casual running, yoga, sand volleyball and softball have kept me going. I also started to get some 5K’s under my belt and two years ago I did the “Warrior Dash”. This was a crazy experience and one that I will never forget (the picture to the right is proof). Running through lakes of mud and pits of fire proved that I can do anything I set my mind to.
So, here I go! My commitment to myself is that I will train and be a participant in the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. And guess what…I learned that I will get a medal for finishing. Add another one to the trophy case!
By way of this blog, I look forward to capturing my journey so that it may entertain and inspire. Thank you for your support!
