Since my son is getting ready to go to college, I rarely get to see him these days. He is busy hanging out with friends until all hours of the night, so I have more free time than I have ever had before. So, I have been running more and on beautiful days like today, I like to bike as well.
I get tired of riding around my subdivision, so this Sunday morning, I had coffee on my patio and decided to go for a bike ride on a trail I had never been on. I drive by this trail nearly every day on the way to work, but have never given it a thought. I figured it would be a pain to haul the bike there and what if it wasn’t very interesting?
But this morning, I thought if you don’t try something new, you stay in your comfort zone and never may find any hidden gems. So, I set up my bike carrier on the back of my Rav4 and trucked to the trail.
At first, I was getting used to the feeling that it was somewhere new, but it began making me feel like I was on vacation, out of state, because ALL the sights were new to me. I went left and found myself going aaaaaaall the way around a big lake, where people were on small fishing boats. I passed by beautiful flowers along the trail, which you’ll see here in the post.
Was I really in Bolingbrook?! I felt like I was in Michigan or Wisconsin! The funny thing is that I was never very far away from the street I drive to work on. But it was amazing how the view just a block or two from it made me feel like I was in another world.
I biked a lot longer than I usually do because it didn’t seem like exercise at all to me. It felt like a vacation.
I totally suggest just going somewhere you’ve never been, yet see many times a week. Take a chance and go walk, run, bike or even just hang out there. It can really recharge you and get you out of the “same ol’, same ol’!” It might make a workout seem more like fun. And as Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
So, don’t miss life, take a positive chance in it!
Yours in fun fitness, Mike
Great message. I did the very same thing on Sunday. Went on the Salt Creek trail not very far from HU. It was a great day.
