Today, I was inspired by a 1-page “Cheat Sheet” by Sarah Kathleen Peck on her blog at ItStartsWith.com, which was titled “Is this the right job for me.” It got me thinking that a similar “flowchart” tool could be adapted to figure out if a form of exercise is right for you or not.
Have you ever tried an activity like running or biking, really tried to get into it, but you lost interest in it really quick, so you just said “Ahhh – why bother – exercise isn’t for me!”
Well, I have. And when I did, I had to ask myself some questions and figure out if I needed to just “Man-Up” or if I really should find something else to do for exercise. So, I thought this “flowchart” might help you figure it out.
I used a new free App on my iPad to do it, called iBrainstorm by Universal Mind. It’s pretty basic, but cool – you are virtually pinning sticky-notes on a corkboard and then you can draw a little on the corkboard as well. Now, I have to be honest and say the original sketch I drew on a piece of (real) paper took me about 15 minutes, but I was adamant on doing the final on my iPad, in which it took me about an hour and a half (seriously!). So much for technology speeding up productivity! 😛 Although, when I mentioned this point to my son he said “At least you learned something new!” Where does he get that great positive attitude?! He’s just like a mini-me, right?! 😉
The graphic should speak for itself, so I won’t say too much about it. You’ll have to click on the image above to open a larger jpeg (I was able to click on it twice to make it even larger). Hopefully it will be large enough for you to read. If not, I’m sure you’ll all tell me (at least I’ll know someone is reading this). Just follow it from “Start” on the left, answer the questions in your head as you move to the right and hopefully it can help you figure things out.
Let me know if it works for you – or even if this gets you to download the App.
–Yours in fun fitness, Mike
